Three years ago, people overwhelmingly voted for a Conservative Government. For decades, Northern towns were ignored and forgotten by Labour. But when the Conservatives won in 2019, that started to change. The Conservatives wanted to make sure towns like Chesterfield were never ignored again.
Chesterfield is right at the top of the Government’s agenda – and we are now seeing the results. Under the Government’s ‘Levelling Up’ agenda, the Conservatives have invested £20 million to help regenerate Chesterfield Town Centre. The investment is set to remodel Stephenson Memorial Hall to allow for an extension to the Pomegranate Theatre and the modernisation of Chesterfield Museum. Key public spaces such as Corporation Street, Rykneld Square, Market Square and New Square will also be regenerated.
This funding is in addition to the £25 million investment for Staveley and £25 million for nearby Clay Cross as part of the Town Deal programme. This is a huge victory for jobs and investment. Most of all, it’s a victory for residents.
That’s why residents are saying they want Chesterfield’s next MP to be Conservative Ben Flook. With a Conservative MP, Chesterfield will finally have a team who champion the town – rather than talking it down to make cheap political points as the current Labour MP and Council do.
