Exciting work is happening both in Staveley and then further up in Renishaw. Both are examples of where, thanks to record investment from the Conservative Government, we are continuing to re-open segments of the canal which have been closed for many years and all build up to the full scale re-linking of it with the wider waterways network.
The £25million Staveley Town Deal of Government money to support the regeneration and improvement of Staveley will contribute to the canal being expanded further beyond Staveley. Work will start in the coming months to do that.
Also additional funding from the Conservative run Derbyshire County Council, as well as the Canal Trust, itself has been able to fund some additional works to the canal at the back of Renishaw to start getting it ready for when it can be linked up to the Staveley part in the coming years ahead.
It’s a really exciting set of breakthroughs for the Chesterfield Canal and, along with the really welcome money from the Government, is all thanks to the hard work of Chesterfield Canal Trust who have done so much for so many years to make this vision of bringing the canal back into use and back to life a reality.
